TOPIC: TRAFFIC SIGNS
The concept Traffic signs are road symbols, signals and markings that are seen on the roads which give information, direction and warnings to drivers and other road users on how to use the road to ensure a smooth and safe traffic flow.
They are signs placed at the sides of the roads to give information to Motorists and other road users. Since language differences can create a barrier to understanding spoken words, international signs using symbols in place of words have been developed and are in used in many countries in the world.
TYPES OF TRAFFIC SIGNS
Traffic signs are of different types with special shapes and colours, each giving out specific information. The shapes and colours of road signs tell you the types which could be any of the following;
1) Regulatory signs
2) Mandatory signs
3) Informative signs
4) Warning signs
5) Give way signs
6) The stop signs.
VEHICLE LIGHTS
There are different types of vehicle lights, they include the following,
1) Amber lights
2) Blue lights
3) white/Red flashing/Rotating lights.
4) Green lights.
AMBER LIGHTS
These are hazard lights and are used by hazardous vehicles.
BLUE LIGHTS
They are lights used by volunteer fire fighters.
WHITE/RED FLASHING/ROTATION LIGHTS
These are lights used by emergency vehicles and sirens.
TRAFFIC LIGHTS
These are special lights found at most road junctions and crossings that help to direct, control and ensure smooth traffic flow through the display of the colours, Red, Yellow and Green.
RED COLOUR
When ref colour is showing, it means, do not cross or go.
YELLOW COLOUR
When it is Yellow or just flashes, it means get ready to move or cross.
GREEN COLOUR
This means go or move.
ASSIGNMENT
1) Explain each of the following,
- A) Regulatory signs
- B) Mandatory signs
- C) Informative signs
- D) Warning signs
- E) Give way signs
- F) The stop signs
2) Draw six (6) examples of each of the various types of traffic signs.
